Book Review Chasing Space

Chasing Space: An Astronaut's Story of Grit, Grace, and Second Chances
Memoir by Leland Melvin

I listened to this book on part of the drive to Texas. I really enjoyed it. Listening to the book made it hard to stop at times.

This book is a memoir of the author's career, not just as an astronaut, but also as a physicist, football player, student, and traveler. What I liked most about the book is his attitude about himself and his acknowledgement of all the people who believed in him and gave him chances he would not have gotten on his own. It was lovely to listen to someone who has done amazing things, but give credit to the people who helped make it happen.

Leland has really worked through out his life, but has also been able to stop and enjoy the people in his life, traveling, hiking, his dogs, and his family. He is a very driven person with a great sense of humor. I would like to meet him and go on a hike with him, or better yet, tour NASA Houston with him. He worked hard to do what he wanted to do and use his God-given abilities. He had great parents and friends throughout his life, made good decisions, pushed himself to his limits, and eventually admitted his shortcomings after making a couple mistakes. He would be a wonderful mentor for teens or adults.

I know you will enjoy reading or listening to the book. I will probably read it again.
